This game is quite good fun, but difficult to explain on screen, so
bear with me!
One child is the cat, another child is the mouse. The cat has to chase
the mouse through the grid to catch it.
All the other children make up the grid.
Stand them in rows of equal numbers with their arms out to the sides. They should be facing a chosen wall, and they should be standing finger tip to finger tip - got it? Good. Now turn the girls 90 degrees to face another wall, they should now be touching fingertips with the children that were either in front or behind them - still with me?
Now you need to tell the “Grid” that each time you yell “Change” they
must turn to face either the first wall or the second wall, they will be forming horizontal and vertical lines for the cat and mouse to run through - your patience is astounding by the way. I’m nearly finished.
You should tell the cat and the mouse that they cannot run under the
grids arms, and they can only go outside the grid to get to another lane, they are not allowed to run all round the outside of the grid.
Once the mouse is caught, change runners. You can influence this game
by calling change to help capture if the mouse is to clever for the cat! Call change as often as you like to keep the grid happy.
Well, that’s it - if you understood it, you deserve a medal!
